Question
Hi, I was wondering if you might be able to help me. I was in a car accident Sep. 04 and I was having a lot of headaches. I went to physical therapy and there I was told that I injured my C1 and C2. I have been living with a headache ever since. It never goes below a 3 on the pain scale and I make a lot of trips to the ER when they get really severe. I see a neurologist but he is the type that says no meds will help and I need to train my brain to overcome these headaches. I have tried Bio feedback, PT and injections in the bottom part of my head. Nothing has worked. Is there anything that you know of that might get me somewhere? I was told by ER nurses and Doc's to say something to my Neurologist about surgery, so I did and he told me that it was out of the question. Also I have had a lot of Cat scans and MRI's and nothing shows up. If you have any ideas please let me know because I dont know where to turn next.

Thanks,
Piroschka

Answer
hi Piroshka- sorry for the slow reply!

I can't guess at what might have happened as a result of the wreck, but based on what you've told me so far I'd say it is time to get another doctor's opinion! I am very much for the idea of limiting medications whenever possible, but I also believe that there are times when they're totally necessary.

It sounds as if you're trying various therapies and not having any success, therefore I think you're justified in wanting someone else's opinion. You can probably even take in the tests already done so you don't have to pay for them all again. If the pain is serious enough to land you in the ER, repeatedly even, I would advise getting to another neurologist soon as you can. If you don't know any, perhaps the hospital staff can suggest one, or your regular doctor can refer you?

Good luck- I know it is very hard to live with this constant pain.
