Question
Hi,
I have a 69 year old freind who has been a quadrepligic for seven years. Just over the last couple of months he said he is getting new movement back in his sholders and some strength back in his arms. He thinks that if he had physical theropy that he could start to recover lilttle by little,, feed himself and someday maybe even walk. He can also move his toes on one foot. Is this a possibility? Has this ever happened to someone who has been a quadreplegic for this long?

Answer
Yes, Dennis, it happened to me. Not as big of an improvement as your friend, but I received more sensation in my arms than I had after a lot more the seven years. If his injury was considered an ''incomplete'' spinal cord injury that means there were still some connections, and after time the nerves reconnect. If he is correct I would suggest he see a neurologist and explore the possibilities of trying some PT. What does he have to lose?
Sincerely, Ken
