Question
Hello.  I am 26 years old and have been suffering from migraines forever practically.  Unfortunatly, I am pregant and I can't even take asperin, which used to be my absolute life saver.  Do you have any suggestions of how I can get relief without medication?  Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Alanna,

For a very long time, I had no idea that *any* relief could be had without medication! However, just recently, I tried out a homeopathic doctor, also known as a naturalist or natural doctor, and I've found that herbs can help where 'traditional' medication can't, and sometimes, can even outperform it. Since I am not an herbal expert, I have no idea what to suggest for migraines. I have migraines as well, but I still take Imitrex for mine, since I have no reason not to be taking medication. Homeopathic medication can help you ease off any medication slowly and replace it with a natural helper. So if I were you, I would seek out a well-reputed naturalist, herbal, or homeopathic doctor near you and go see her. I would advise, however, that you make sure it's a medical doctor, and that you have references of other pregnant women she's worked with. Of course, if you can't put your faith in natural treatments, like herbs or accupuncture, I wouldn't even make the call.
There are very few other things I've heard of that help migranes, besides the 'traditional' meds, like Maxalt and Imitrex, that you don't want to take while you're pregnant. Of course, I'm not a doctor by any means, nor am I sure how chronic pain changes during pregnancy. So the only other thing I'd suggest would be to stay away from your known triggers, or in other words, what gives you migraine headaches. If it's cigarette smoke or certain foods, avoid them. If it's stress, avoid that as much as possible (I know that'll be hard, being pregnant!). Staying away from triggers will lesson your likelyhood to develop a migraine. Since you've had them for so long, you probably know that though:) Bear in mind that hormones also play a factor in migraines, so your pregnancy may add to the duration and frequency of the headaches. I am sorry I can help you no further. I wish you good luck with your migraines and your pregnancy, and may God to bless you!
Sincerely,
Celeste
P.S. I *love* your name! It's so pretty!
