Question
I got in a car accident on Thursday night and the doctor said I would be very sore because of the bruising, but everything just hurts really bad, is there anything I can try to ease it. I have tried Tylenol, and Advil.

Answer
Dear Laura,

I hope you are feeling.  Car accident can cause whiplash type injury to the neck and low back.  Initially the body will produce quite an amount of adrenaline in which the body will not feel pain.  But once it subsided, usually later in the evening or the next morning, the body will feel the pain.  Taking Tylenol and Advil only numb the pain and the pain get worse once the medications wear off.

It is good that you have seen a doctor to rule out any fracture or serious condition from the accident.  Have you try massage and heat to the area?  This will help to relax the muscles as they are tensed up to protect the injured area (body natural defense mechanism against traumatic injury).  If the pain persist, I suggest for you to seek treatment from either a chiropractor or acupuncturist or both to speed up the recovery and pain management.
