Question
Dear Cappuccilli,

Last night I started to get swelling in the jaw my jaw has pain the bone hurts I dont know what this could be. I take medication for diabetes, depression, thyroid, ect. I have a syndrome as well digeorge syndrome my heart is reversed one side. I have real pain in my jaw bone and its swelling up and I dont know what to do. What could this be? This is the left side of the jaw by the chin. please help me?

Answer
ok - there are no side effects or adverse effects related to the most common medications in the classes that you mentioned that deal with jaw bone issues.  Alendronate - a drug that is usually used to help with bone density has been linked to jack bone problems in patients. From your description and from the time frame you described (hours instead of days) for this to become a problem it really sounds like a dental issue - an infected tooth maybe.  You should be seen by your dentist or doctor as soon as you can - dont go into the weekend with an infection possibly brewing.
