Question
QUESTION: Hi i keep getting VERY SHARP pains where my heart is for no reason. Not affected by breathing or touch. Had for about 6 weeks on/off but about once a day. Also often feels tingling sensation like a small muscle spasm in the area. Had an ECG and X-ray a year ago when which were fine. Can not understand why i keep getting these EXTREMEMLY SHARP left chest pains. Please help.
*YOUNG, DONT DRINK SMOKE AND NOT OVERWEIGHT.
Thank you.

ANSWER: A recent ECG is appropriate unless you can clear this pain up, fast.

It could be muscles cramping between ribs, but since it is not affected by breathing, that sounds unlikely.

Have you had a blow to the ribs? or a seat-belt yank starting about six weeks ago?  Is it deep or superficial?

QUESTION: hi i have had a ECG and Xray last year. and a blood test last week which was normal. however i continue to get sharp pains in my chest on the left and centre. no injuries. pain can sometimes radiate to back. usually worrying when if feels like i am being stabbed in the heart. thanks for your last answer. all help is greatly appreciated. thank you

Answer
Hi, Joel,

You said "six weeks ago" for the pain and "last year" for the ECG.  That's not recent.

It's possible that you have a nerve impingement in the back, of the nerve the reports sensations of the ribs in the area; however, "last year" doesn't rule out cardiac problems that started six weeks ago.

That's my best, with the information you have provided.
