Question
hello, I dont know if you will be able to help me. I have recently had jaw surgery as part of some ongoing orthodontal work. Actually, the surgery isnt the problem. I now have an expander brace in my mouth that is putting a lot of pressure on my teeth and jaws. I am usually very good at dealing with pain (I've experienced quite a lot of different types in my life!), and have undergone orthodontal work in the past, so I knew what to expect. The trouble is that this aching is unbearable! Because it is in my face I find it hard to tune it out and none of the painkillers that I have been given or tried seem to work.
Have you any ideas?

Answer
Hi Kate and thanks for writing,

I'm not an expert at Orthodontic surgery but I am wondering if perhaps your expander brace is set too tight as you are experiencing a lot of pain. I would suggest you go see your surgeon and consult with him and see if any adjustments can be made to lessen the pain. If not, I would continue taking Anti-inflammatories and maybe try some alternative therapies like Acupuncture as it can be very effective.

Sorry I can be more help but I do wish you all the best,

Margot
