Question
I fel a few years ago and after being adjusted by a chiropractor, I had a unbearable pain in my occipital area.I could not make the pain go away. the next day the Dr. stood over me and popped my head up to release this pain. Since then this pain has been coming almost 3 to 4 times a week. I am afraid to see a chiropractor again. Also my teenage son squeezed me from behind and a burning pain shot up my neck. These pains are getting worse and I have seen neurologists and other doctors and no one can diagnose this or how to make it go away. I have had m.r.i. of the brain and cervical.  The only thing that was found was slight buldging of c6 also something c2 c3 nothing that they feel is causing the pain. This is getting worse and I don't know what to do.  I recently saw a Dr. at the University of Pennsilvania Spine center They want to inject steriod into c2/c3. Do you think that this would work?

Answer
First, don't let a bad experience by a chiropractor scare you away; we have our god and bad, just like other professions.  The injection that is planned may be helpful; I have seen it work wonders for disc related pain.  I have had good success on these types of pain with soft tissue work (myofascial release, pressure point therapy, etc, and low level laser).  The pain when your son hugged you concerned me.  Have you had an MRI of the head?  Believe me, I am not throwing a diagnosis out, but that type of pain can have a neurological cause.  You may want to question your Neurologist a little with that.
Hope that this helps.
