Question
Hi there Dr.

I am currently 18 years old, a little overweight, 5 / 11, 250lbs. I am visiting my grandparents and about 10 min ago my grandfather fell. He has horrible arthritis and could not get up and I literally had to pick him up. He is really heavy. I was able to get him up but now my upper back really hurts. I can move fine but it just feels really stiff and hurts quite a bit. Also when I try to straighten my back i hear some cracking noices in my upper back. I really hope I have not damaged it. I have a very busy schedule and do not have time to see my chiropractor. Can you please tell me what you think I should do. I really hope I will be alright. Thanks,

Sam

Answer
Sam,

'Sounds like you simply strained your back.  Yeah, it hurts.  The cracking noises often come from inflamed joints.   Do the usual and reasonable approach:  rest, ice, etc...     Give it some time to heal up and then see your chiropractor when you can.
