Question
QUESTION: Dear daniel,

Hi, I was kicked in the head a couple times almost a week ago, and I wanna know if its normal to still be kind of dizzy, it only really happens when I lay my head down I feel like I got the spins for a couple seconds, or when I get up also. I went to the hospital  because the doctor told me It was neck muscle strain. i still have a sore neck and shoulders, but I want to know if it is normal to still be dizzy..

ANSWER: Hi alex,

Kicked in the head?  Dude, you might need some new friends.  Seriously, I am sorry that you're having this kind of trouble.

Continue to be careful with this kind of trouble.  This often happens for two reasons.  The brain has been jarred inside the skull causing some (hopefully mild) concussion.  Also, the muscle and ligaments are strained affecting the blood and nerve supply into the head.

Usually these will clear over a period of time.  Chiropractic treatment can speed recovery from the muscle and ligament injury.

The concussion has to heal on it's own and that is quite unpredictable.  The chiropractic doctor can help you evaluate whether a neurology consult is advisable.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Yeah man, crazy night...I'm trying to stay away from the problems though.
thanks a lot, I really appreciate your help, can I ask if you can maybe direct me in which of these two problems it might be? I still have some pain and soreness in my neck and shoulder area, It has been getting better though, but does this mean it could be the muscle and ligaments being strained? Also, like I said it only happens usually when I lay down and lay my head back, and when I get up also. Sparingly does it occur when I'm not laying down. It doesn't stay for long, usually a couple seconds. I wanted to ask another question also if its okay, my arms and shoulders and neck feel itchy, its not really that itchy, but I just wanted to ask if thats normal also. thanks again!

ANSWER: You surely have a bit of both.  The neck and shoulder area is muscle, ligament, etc.  The dizzyness is probably support tissues (ie blood vessels) for the brain that have been injured.

The itchiness may be what we call paresthesia from the insult to the nerves of the neck area.

Hopefully, it is all temporary and will heal.  Chiropractic could give you the best chance of that.

Make sure you rest and gently stretch to maintain range of motion.

Do well.

QUESTION: thanks!
man sorry to keep bugging but I just wanted to ask how long do you think it will heal up? I heard the soreness goes away after a couple weeks.

Answer
No problem.  Wish I could do more but you know these pesky electrons are in the way.

Yeah, usually two weeks for the muscle ligament stuff.  The head biz should do the same but can occasionally take quite a while.  If it gets worse get to the doc immediately.

Like I said, ideally seeing the chiropractor now is wise.  I know that there are difficulties (ie money, insurance, time) with that.

Get better.
