Numbness in left pinky finger and in left hip

Question
Hi, for the past 2 months I have had a numbness that comes and goes in my left pinky finger. I read online from a few sources that this could be caused by putting a lot of weight on your elbow for long periods of time. So I've been trying not to do that but now I also have a weird numb sensation over my left hip and side and I'm wondering if they could be connected or why this might be happening. I've been a smoker for the past 5 years and do not work out regularly. Could this be why these problems started?
Thanks,
Daniella

Answer
Smoking does indeed effect the circulatory system and inturn can effect your nerves. Numbness in those areas can also be caused by muscular entrapments. For instance the nervie in the pinky finger could be betting "trapped" in the hand, elbow or neck. The same can be said for the left hip. Without performing a full examination it is difficult for me to assess exactly what are causing your symptoms. I would recommend getting a full examination by a chiropractor, as well as having your diet assessed. Lack of certain nutrients and minerals can cause similar symptoms especially when smoking is concerned

Hope this helps
