Chiropractor visits -- How long is TOO long?

Question
To Whom It May Concern:

In early January of 2010, I basically threw my back out after lifting a box.  I couldn't sit, lay down very well, etc.  I immediately started going to a chiropractor two days later.  Within a week, I was able to walk around, lie down, sit down, etc with very little pain.  My chiropractor had me seeing him...at first...3 times a week.  It eventually went to 1 time a week, then once every two weeks, then once every three weeks.
My insurance only pays for 26 visits.  Sept. 1, 2010 was my 26th visit.  NOW...the chiropractor wants me to continue coming to him for adjustments.  Which means, I will have to pay the full adjustment rate, since insurance won't pay.
Is it NECESSARY that I continue going?  My back has been just fine for 7 months now (in my opinion).
I almost feel like the chiropractor is trying to "squeeze" as much money out of me.  He said that he'll expand the visits until January...so then...insurance can pick back up again.
Should I continue with treatments?  I feel like I'm almost being "scammed."

Please share your opinion.  Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Lisa,

Yes, on average 1x per month is recommended even if your feeling great.  Often in a months time we do something that causes muscle tightness/imbalance which leads to subluxations.  So preventative treatments are great for maintaining the bodies proper biomechanics, reducing the risk of injury.

Have a great day,
