Question
I am 52 years, male and had an accident where another vehicle rear ended my vehicle. During the incident I had felt jerk in lower back and also in the left part from leg to the shoulder. Slight pain started about after 2 weeks and then increased to a very discomfort level. I went to a Chiropractor and have started treatment for my back pain. The Chiropractor also noticed that there was slippage of Rib. After the treatment of the ribs the pain subsided a bit. However, it increased again in two days and I had to cancel my vacation and rush to the chiropractor again. This time again the Chiropractor treated the misaligned ribs. There was a comfort after the treatment though slight pain was there. After coming home the pain in ribs started again when I change postures like, Sitting to Standing and vice versa, Turning in bed , take deep breath or climb steps. Is this normal healing process or should more thorough exam of the ribs is required?

Answer
Hi Shekhar,
I feel your pain. My first exposure to chiropractic when I was much younger was a result of having my ribs severely misaligned. Not a fun thing to have. This is likely part of the healing process as ribs can take some time to get fully better. If you feel better after an adjustment even for just a short time there is probably not much to worry about. If it continues beyond a few weeks without much improvement or it gets worse I would make sure your chiropractor took some x-rays of the ribs or sends you out.

Hope this helps,

Dr. Russ
