Choosing a chiropractor for the first time

Question
Hi,
I am a 38 year old female that has never had a chiropractic adjustment.  I am currently being plagued by chronic congested ears (ETD)off which I am not entirely sure of the origin. I have had this problem in the past, but it was usually due to colds. This episode was preceded by intense sinus pain for several weeks.  I noticed along this time that my neck and back were very tense, tight with knots and when I bent over part of my stomach went numb.  When I rub around my shoulder blade it helps drain my ears so I am thinking a chiropractor can be helpful for me, but I have to admit to a certain fear of going to one (silly, I know) and feel paralyzed about deciding who to see.  I have compiled a list and am getting a little overwhelmed with all the specialties-upper cervical, trigger point, active release. Any advice on how to choose a good chiropractor would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much for your time!!

Answer
Hi Sharye,

It is no surprise you are having a difficult time.   Chiropractors vary in their skill-set, training, demeanor, and practice style.    You surely want to avoid anything that seems overly dogmatic or kooky.   You surely can find highly educated and skilled DC's on this site:   www.westhartfordgroup.com.  Any of these DC's, if there is one in your state, can help you home in on someone in your neighborhood.   You can also find some good DC's on this site:   www.acbsp.com (especially the DACBSP's).   Also, you might do well to find a DC that has training in FAKTR.com based on how you described your condition.    I do have a link on my website on how to find a good DC on the "how to" tab.

I hope this was helpful and didn't add to your confusion.    Let me know if I can help further.

Best regards,

Dr. G'
