Question
Is it possible at 34 years of age and without an injury to be suffering from severe arthritis? My lower back has an unbearable ache. This has been prominent for about a year now. Strange thing is it occurs at the same time every evening. My other concern is a distinct area of pain located between two vertebrae in my lower back. I discovered it as I was rubbing the ache away last night. It was extremely sensitive and isolated. Chiropractic care has been entertained over the years, and I have had my x-rays, about 1 1/2 ago. There is obviously something at the heart of this. My providers provide care, ongoing...and going with no end in sight (this is the very reason, why I am not under care now).

I would like a solution or some idea as to what it is that is being treated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
First and foremost if you have arthritis it would show up on your x-rays. I understand that you have been seeing a Chiropractor. Are you seeing the DC on a formalized treatment plan or just going when you are in pain or agonizing pain. Chiropractic in order to be effective needs to be delivered in a certain fashion. If you have followed a formalized Chiropractic plan you should see at a minimum a decrease in one of the following, frequency of symptoms, intensity of symptoms and/or duration of symptoms. If not a second opinion is required. Also at this point a MRI is most likely the route to go to determine if there is disc involvement.

Also you should look into chiropractors who specialize in chronic conditions these Chiropractors will have advanced techniques that you may or may not qualify for. Look for Exercise with Oxygen Therapy and other specific treatment protocols. Finally if you are done with Chiropractic you should get a medical check up by your GP to make sure there is nothing else going on that could mimic back pain.
