Chronic low Back Pain

Question
I was injured back in 2011 at work with what I was told as a thorasic sprain/strain and a "rib out". I was referred to the in house chiropractor and was given a total of 4 adjustments.

In one of my visits to the chiropractor I was told to bite down on a hand towel, while the chiropractor tried to push the rib back into place.  The pain that I had never got any better and I honestly think after seeing the chiropractor I got worse.  After a few visits they were unable to put the rib back into place and was released on full duty after 3 weeks.

After working on full duty for 1 1/2 months I re-injured the same area and was told that I sprained my back again and that a rib popped out once again.

I then went to get a second opinion and was told after getting some x-rays taken that I actually had a closed fracture of my T6 level rib.

My rib has healed since then however, the pain has not gone away and has actually gotten worse.  I was diagnosed with chronic low back pain and chronic muscularskeletal pain by two different doctors.  Could it be possible for the chiropractor to have actually broken my rib and would it be possible for the cause of my current condition?

Answer
Mark,
Depending of the type of injury you had at work that caused your rib to "pop out", it is possible that  you fractured it overtime or at one incident. You May have broken your rib prior to going to the chiropractor and of course it's possible that he made it worse.

Unfortunately with a broken rib, chronic discomfort is very common. Therapeutic exercises and some rehab at the right chiropractor can help you manage the pain, but it takes a very long time to heal completely.

Good luck!
