Question
: I went and had a catscan on my brain and neck the results of brainscan was all normal but the neck one i am not sure of so i am hoping you could explain to me';';the DR says all is normal
Bylateral styloid processes are present. These are normal veriants but may be an occassional cause of discomfort in the region of the upper neck.In addition the lateral wing of the pterygoid is extremely prominent on both sides. There is opacification and mucasal thickening of the right maxilliary sinus with a fluid level which suggests there may be an additional infective sinus.
The study has been formed non contrast and suggests a small area of atheromatous plaque in the region of the carotid bulb on the right. There are small lymph nodes present in both cervical chains no large nodes are noted, there are some irregularity of the false chords with the base of the chord on the left appearing thickened ,there is also a small amount of mucosal thickening in the upper oesophagus the significance of the finding is uncertain. No abnormality of the tubarius of fossa of Rosenmuller is seen and no obvious abnormality of the eustachian tube is seen but the mucosal tissue in the upper nasopharyanx is a little more prominant than on the left.
Comment.
is some prominence of the nasopharyngal lymphoid tissue although this appears more pronounced on the left. There are relatively small but generalised lymph nodes bilaterally and there is some apparant thickening of the false chord on the left ,this appearance could all be consistant with sinusitis and post nasal drip the clinical significance of the apparant mucosal thickening of the mucosa in the upper oesophagus is currently uncertain and further investigations is recommended.
The mucosal thickening and the false chord is what scares me...could you please explain I did have tonsil stones and do have TMJ and although all else was cklear in my neck xray ';';bone density is normal and no loss of vertebral body height or loss of alignment is seen ';no significant disc pathology is identified at any level narrowing of the neural foramina;;essentially normal study';';;well what would this mean?

Answer
Kitty,

These questions are better answered by your doctor.

However, mucosal thickening shouldn't concern you; it means the mucous membrane may be a bit swollen.

More pertinent to conversation with me:  what problem are you solving?
