Question
Am a 36 years old Indian male working in Dubai. I have been suffering
from a condition since past 15 years which conventional Doctors dont
seem to understand.

About 15 years back I had to apply excessive pressure by putting one
leg on the wall & the other on the ground to open a very heavy
warehouse door (sliding type). Immediately thereafter I started
vomiting.

A physiotherapist told me that my navel has displaced and made me do
some excersizes to re align it and things became alright again.

The next day I had to open the same door and the process repeated
itself. and then again after a few days the same happened.

Now the situation has deteriorated to such an extent that even when I
lift as little as 8 to 10 kgs or get a jerk my Navel displaces. If it
displaces on the upperside I tend to vomit, if it moves lower down I
have loose motions and if it is displaced sideways I get tremendous
back pains and too much gas is formed which rises to the head and I
have unbearable headaches.

All the above symptoms subside once the navel is realigned (which is
becomeing more & more difficult do). Incase of sideways displacement,
after aligning the navel, the upper body has to be massaged to take
out all the inherent gas which comes out in large burps.

Hernia has been ruled out, got myself checked by a hernia specialist
in India.

Please advise a suitable course of treatment.

Thanks

Kalim

Answer
Kalim,

The first thing is to stop opening the door that way.  You've conditioned your muscles to go quickly into the kind of contraction that displaces your navel.

The exercises your phyiotherapist are working to correct that conditioning, but the more you do that motion, the stronger the conditioning becomes.

There is an instructinoal program on audio CD for balancing the center of the body called, "The Five-Pointed Star", available at Somatics on the Web (somatics.com/page7.htm).  Check into it.
