Question
I was involved in a vehicle accident 7 days ago. I was driving westbound 35 miles an hour when a vehicle ran a stop sign northbound impacting my drivers side of vehicle. I instantly hit the left side of my head on the door frame and was unable to open and get out my door. A police car was directly in front of me which promptly turned around and came on to the scene. I refused a ride to hospital yet went 1 hour later. I have since been to the urgent care 4 times(I have been in this town only 2 months and have no Dr.).The diagnoses are; closed head injury, contusion with hemotoma left side head, severe cervical and thoracic strain and sensory neuropathy. My vehicle has $14,000.00 damage to the drivers side.
So the question is without retaining a lawyer, how does a person know what amount of damage to seek?

Answer
Terri,
You can't. With so new an injury, no knowledge of what state you are in, too little information about your diagnoses, too soon to learn the nature, extent, and duration of your injuries, the nature , extent , duration, and cost of your treatment, and the effect of the injuries on your ability to work and your enjoyment of life, and your activities outside of work, neither can I, even with 41 years handling these cases and 20 years mediating them!
Retain a lawyer or just patiently await the outcome of your collision.
And find a neurologist. A lawyer will send you to an excellent doctor for evaluation and physical therapy. Without extensive treatment, your case has little value.
