Pain at the base of the neck, near shoulders

Question
Hi!

Just recently, I've had a very strange pain on the back of my neck, at the base, near the shoulders that happens moreso when I turn my head to the left.

At first, that's all it was, but in a few hours, I started feeling small pains on the other side, just above the shoulder, except now it also hurts a little with I look to the right or look straight forwards.

I've been known to have poor posture, but nothing had happened like this until recently. Should I be concerned? Is there something I can do about it on my own?

Answer
Hi Gerald,

I wouldn't be concerned, these things usually come and go. If it is painful, put ice on it for 15 minutes every 3rd hour, this minimizes any inflammation. If it persists, go to your doctor and get an orthopedic exam. It might not be necessary but if it lasts more than a few days, get it looked at.
