Question
i have an L-6 S-1 disc extrusion.  i am 28 and in the past year and a half i have had only two series of cortizone epiderals and the second only for mild discomfort.  im able to run, excerise and lift weights but watch how much i carry around. i supplement my diet with a stong joint complex, bromelain, about 4g of fish oil, and i take nambutone twice daily and baclofen once at night.  i feel pretty good most of the time.  i currently work as a detention officer and was wondering if a career as a police officer is out of the question and if golg is a somewhat safe sport to play regularly

Answer
As long as you are continuing to take measures to keep the area strengthened, I see no reason why your career decisions should change or why you should not play golf.  After all, you're feeling good and you're able to do most everything.  Just keep things in moderation to prevent any more damage.

Exercise keeps the area strong and therefore, more resistant to further injury.  I would recommend long, slow stretching techniques such as yoga every day.  This practice will keep the area limber, more relaxed, and less likely to have muscle spasms.

Thank you for your question, Alex.  I hope that my answer was helpful.
