Question
I would like to know if there is any research on the response to Humira as opposed to Enbril - I have a chrons pt (adolescent) who also has arthritis with occasional effusions - I am trying to determine which is the better for arthritis I know Humira is now approved for Chrons too

Answer
Patricia,

This is a difficult question to answer because there is a lot to be considered when choosing a drug to treat arthritis. I can give you some general information about Humira and Enbrel. Both Enbrel work on a factor which is called which is found in higher amounts in Rheumatoid arthritis. Humira is a type of antibody that attacks TNF. Enbrel is a fusion protein that targets TNF.

I am not aware that Humira is approved for Chron's disease. REMICADE an other TNF blocker has been approved by the FDA for Chron's.

All three are used for RA, psoriasis and ankylosing spondylitis as well as used to control the inflammation of Chron's disease.

Remicade is give only once every 8 weeks but it is done by infusion. From my research it seems to be the preferred for Chron's of the three but having to go in for an infusion every 8 weeks can be a hassle.

I wish I could be more help. From the way you ask the question I assume you are a medical professional. The above was general information if you are not. If you are here is a link that may be helpful.
