Question
Mr. Ford,
I have been wondering, should I take anything to boost my immune system, vit C .. to help fight off infections, that I have had since Nov. Or would that make my immune sys stronger and make RA worse.
I have been on Humira @ 6mos
Thank You,
Paula

Answer
Paula,

I this is a good question that is hard to answer. There is really nothing you can do with diet that is going to effect your immune system that much. There is a lot of hype about supplements that will enhance your immune system but their effect is minimal at best.

I hope you are seeing your doctor about the infections. If not then you need to see your doctor ASP. Infections can be a serious side effect of Humira. Most people tolerate it well but there are those who just can not take it.

It could be that your doctor will take you off Humira long enough to treat the infection. Once the infection is clear hopefully you can begin again with no side effects. If the infection is mild enough the doctor may treat you with antibiotics while on Humira.

I wish I could be more help.

Here is a link to our page about Humira. It has general information about the drug. I did a search to see if I could find more information about treating infections while on Humira but found nothing useful. All the sites made the same recommendation as above. Have your doctor monitor the infection.
