Question
My mom's doctor has recommmended an orthopedic surgeon to do a hip replacement.  How can we research his credentials, successes, testimonials, etc. ?  We live in NYC ; are there ways to find the best hospitals for this procedure ?

Answer
Dear Neil
I had several replacements done in NYC.  Mount Sinai hospital is very good.  The best hospital is The Hospital for Special Surgery, and the best doctor is Dr. Padgett.

The best thing to do as far as credentials is simple, just ask.

Ask how many replacement surgeries the doctor has done, ask to speak to several patients.  My gut reaction is that if you are in NYC you have the best at either of the two hospitals I mentioned
Good luck to your mom
