Question
Mr. Rufa, about 4 and a half weeks ago I fractured my ankle (I'm not sure where). The doctors said no surgery was required, put me in a splint, and  a cast 3 days later. I just got my cast off, and they gave me a cam walker boot. I also got x-rays taken today, which showed that my bones were still healing. The problem is, I can walk around pretty easily in my shoe, although I limp around a lot, and the cam walker kind of hurts to walk in. Should I still walk in the walker, and if so how long should I wait before I switch to using my shoe? Because I feel like I'm comfortable using my shoes now, but I don't want to set my injury back or make it even worse by not using the boot.

Answer
I really can't give you any advice without seeing x-rays and knowing how well your ankle has healed. 5 weeks is still a little early to be walking with full weight bearing depending on where the fracture is. Call your doctor and ask him/her.
