Question
I have pain in my hip replacement. Could you please tell me what this radiologist report means?
I have an appt but not for a week or so.
Demineralization. Right tha without findings of loosening.
Post traumatic versus post surgical deformity of the right iliac wing.
Degenerative sclerosis of both si joints. Presumed bone island left supraacetabular ilium.
Is this common to have these things? Or just me getting old? I am 47. Thank you for your time

Answer
DEb,
Demineralization in kind of like osteoporosis..less bone density.
Your Hip replacement is not loose so thats good.
Iliac wing is a part of your hip..the radiologist does not know your history or exam like your Dr..so he has to list finding as could be trauma(ie fell down, car wreck) or from surgery.
Degenerative sclerosis of SI joints is a thickening/hardening of bone from wear and tear of bone on bone..kind of like arthritis.
Bone island is a benign cyst like area w/i the bone..
For you to have a hip replacement at 47 is obviuosly not normal..so w/i that context these findings are not uncommon. Dr may want to get an MRI next to R/O AVN..avascular necrosis of the hip..where hip has decreased or now blood supply.
