MRSA and knee replacement

Question
My father had MRSA from multiple hospital stays. He died in December from reasons unrelated to MRSA. My mother had been caring for him. AS far as she knows, she has never been tested for MRSA. Does her exposure to MRSA from my father predispose her to periprosthetic infection after knee replacement surgery? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Dear JoAnn,
Always make sure you tell this story to all doctors that may need to treat you or your Mom.
There is a chance you may be symptom-free MSRA carriers.
Usually they will do a nasal swab to verify the above. If the swab is positive-then you probably will receive antibiotics prior to any procedure.
The above advice pertains to surgery.
If you are concerned-get an appointment with an infectious disease doctor, for an up to date opinion
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!
