Question
over 8 weeks ago i severly sprained my ankle, two weeks after seeing the ortho doctor i went back for a recheck at that time he said it should be alright if not make an appt after 4 weeks.  During, this recheck he sent me to have an ultra sound done of my right leg to make sure i did not have a blood clot which i did in my groin , i am doing the blood thinners right now for about three months then I have another ultra sound done.  My question is my ankle  still swells  a little every day and it feels like something heavy is on it when i sleep at night and i cannot do a sweeping motion fron left to right with it.  should i just give it more time to heal or have an mri .

This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Laser Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear JD,

Most ankle sprains heal without surgical treatment within 3-4 months.(If treated with support/protection appropriate for the ankle injury).
Try PRICE
Protect-Wear an ankle brace around the ankle and limit the movements that aggravate it.
Rest-Speaks for itself-perhaps the weekend & evenings when you are off-rest it.
Ice- Will help if it is still painful and a little with the swelling.
Compress-Ace wrap  or ankle sleeve
Elevate-Will help if it throbs or swells at the end of the day.
Go to our website store at AnkleNFoot.com for examples of wraps, sleeves or supports for your ankle.
Do the ankle movements gently and be patient. Surgical repair of ankle ligaments can be done at any time if needed.

Hope This Helps
Good Luck !!!
