Question
Hello: I had trauma to my iliolumbar ligament, from a fall.  If someone has a tear in this ligament right at the L5 attachment, how is it found?  I am perfectly fine when I am laying down, but the sencond I stand or sit, It is unbelievable. I have a dent where something crushed right at the attachment to L5. This is very sore. I read that this is hard to diagnose, and treat.  What would the treatment be for this?

Answer
Dear Barrie,

An MRI would give most information.
Unfortunately with a musculoskeletal injury-it can take many weeks to get better.
Try a donut pillow to sit on. Do slow warm-ups of the painful area when laying down. Stop activity when it is really bad. Use lots of ice & occasional anti-inflammatories- max dose for a few days.
Good Luck!
