Question
Dr. Tsatsos,

My friend has a simple fx of her 5th metatarsal. She broke this bone several years ago in the same place. Her last x-ray showed that there is no calcification visible(3 weeks post fx). She understands that the delay can be related to the area of the fracture, blood supply, etc. Her question is, should she be bearing weight? She is in a boot. She is seeing her primary care doc and not an orthopedist. Thanks in advance for your time.

Answer
This Chicago Podiatrist, Elmhurst Podiatrist & South Loop Podiatrist says.......

Dear Katy,

Regarding your friend's non-healing 5th metatarsal.
Tell them to get all their results & x-rays and go see a Board Certified Podiatrist.
Non-weight-bearing for a non-healing 5th metatarsal.
Also compare her/his boot to boots on our website at AnkleNFoot.com on our web-store.
The boot needs to be able to restrict motion.
Good Luck
Hope This Helps
