Answer
Dan,

Thank you for your question. I know that I can help. I can assure you that the pain you were experiencing over that 5 week period was of sacroiliac joint origin.  The shoveling and twisting to load up the truck resulted in a fixated (stuck) or torqued pelvis.  This results in pain at the sacroiliac joint, usually on one side or the other, which is located at the base of the spine just out to the side a bit.  This is probably the most common cause of all back pain.  Normally, I will see this in my office after the patient has gone a week or so and not gotten better with pain meds or rest or whatever.  Usually, 1-4 adjustments on the sacroiliac joints takes care of the problem completely.

What you did when you reached for the glass was put yourself in a position in which the sacroiliac joint "adjusted" itself and corrected the fixation or torque that was there.  Once the fixation was "broken loose", the irritation on the joint was gone and therefore the cause of the pain was resolved.  Congratulations, you just practiced chiropractic on yourself and corrected your back pain problem.

I have seen this very thing happen in the past, although it usually doesn't and does require some treatment.  If you get this kind of pain again in the future, contact me and ask me what to do, or just go see a chiropractor.  Normally, when you catch them quick enough, it only takes a few visits to resolve completely.  This way you won't have to go through 5 weeks or pain.

Thanks again for the question and hopefully, you don't have to worry about this ever again.

God Bless,

Dr. Boss
