Severe pain in shoulder

Question
When the pain first started my little finger and ring finger and the left side of my palm went numb, then only when I lift my arm from the side of by body up to shoulder height, there is severe pain! When my arm is down, there is no pain, still some numbness in little finger and ring finger, but I have to say on a scale from 1-10 when I lift my arm, it is an 8 sometimes 9! I haven't taken anything, because as long as I don't move my arm above my shoulder there is no pain! What could it be! Also I forgot to mention, it is my left shoulder, I am 49, and have no medical problems!

Answer
Hi Shirley,

This could be one of the following:  1)  Cervical spine disc bulge touching against the spinal nerve that goes down your arm and hand;   2) something touching or adhereing to your ulnar nerve on the inner elbow/arm; 3) arthritic/degenerative spur in your shoulder that pokes you and causes the arm/hand pain when you jam it by raising your arm/shoulder;     You should find a good sports chiropractor:  www.acbsp.com  or a quality chiropractor www.westhartfordgroup.com and get this sorted out.   First things first is hands on physical examination to test each of these areas, as well as do a basic neurologic screening of skin sensation, reflexes, and arm/shoulder strengths;   x-ray or MRI may not be necessary depending on the findings;
