High uric acid levels, family history of gout

Question
Hello,

Twice in the last few months I've had a problem with blocked salivary glands.  My doctor sent me for blood work, and said the stones are forming because I have high uric acid levels, though we don't know why.

My 50yo brother has gout in both knees, which is a type of arthritis caused by uric acid, and my doctor has informed me that sometimes high levels can just run in families.

I am trying to find out if there are natural ways to reduce levels of uric acid in the blood.  You know, start eating something, stop eating something, whatever.  I just started taking Lovastatin for high cholesterol and will be having some more blood work done in about 3 months.

Another question I have: I've had gastric reflux disease since 1982, and am currently on 150mg of ranitidine (Zantac) 3 times a day.  Is it possible that the long-term ranitidine treatment could be causing the high levels of uric acid?

Thanks for your time, and any information or suggestions you have.  It is very much appreciated!

Sincerely,
Linda
