Question
Dear Mr.McKinzie,

First of all I pay highly tribute for your service to Mankind.
A cousine of mine afflicted with spinal injury, a motor bike striked badly to a heavy vehicle and sat at the back with motorbike safety carrier, the carrier's knoby rod pierced in his spine, the result that he is on the wheel chair but he feels bit sensations in legs. Age26.
At earleir he could not even sit for 5 min, after several times physio therapy, now he can sit for many hours.
So, kindly let me know that at last what is the solution of his problem, would he be able to walk any more, this event was about 4year back.
Anticipating early reply.
Thankingyou.

Regards,

Wasim Zaid.

Answer
Hi Wasim,
Thanks so much for your question.

Unfortunately, because of the complexity of the nervous system, I can not tell you whether or not your cousin will ever walk again. Each spinal cord injury is unique and no 2 injuries are the same.

While it is true that some people who have experienced spinal cord injuries have made full recoveries and were able to walk again, the majority do not recover.

There are, however, much research being done to help reverse the effects of spinal cord injuries.

Although, there is no guarantee that he will walk again, it is encouraging that he has some sensation in his legs.

I'm sorry I could not give a more definitive answer.

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.

Thanks again,
John McKinzie
