i went to the doctors and she is talking about 4 of the disks need a metal plate to start with i had a really bad accidents she  said that the disk would only get worse, but im worry about side effect that i have been hearing about

Thanks so much for your question.

You didn't mention what level they were considering doing the fusion but the main side effect of a fusion is range of motion.
If you smoke, I'd quit as soon as possible. Smoking hinders the healing process and will the patient sometimes need a second fusion.
