Question
Hi John, My friend had his spinal cord severed so when he uses the toilet he has to insert a cafita. Because of this, he has a problem with candida in the stomach and in the uretha. What would you recommend other than antibiotics. What diet should he be following? Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Nicola,
Thanks so much for your questions.

Infection is quite common in patients with spinal cord injuries that require frequent catheterization. You could talk to his doctor about getting a foley catheter. This type of catheter stays in the badder and reqiures changing about every 3-4 weeks.

As for his diet, he should eat a balanced diet and most importantly, drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Preferrably, distilled or filtered water.

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.

Thanks again,
John McKinzie
