Question
Hi,
I'm not sure if we have to pay for a family doctor, its just I would like to find out as much as I can because my borther is going to a childrens doctor on Friday and maybe I can talk to him about it. Should I be worried about what is happening to me?
Simone

-----Question-----

Hi,
How much money would it cost to get this done, an estimate. Could a normal childrens doctor do these tests?

Hi,
Could you please tell me how I may be able to tell if it is a heart condition or not without going to see a doctor.Reply ASAP
Thanks from Simone

-----Question-----
Hi, This big beat in my heart doesn't happen at any specific time, not after exercise, possibly because I'm excited, I will try and see if it happens after I'm startled or excited. This heart beat is like when a horse is jumping over something and lands really hard on the ground or when a person jumps off something high, the feeling when they land on their feet (hard)  is like what happens to me. I don't go short of breath, lips don't go blue and no pain in my arms. The only area with pain is around my heart and around my breast.
Thank you very much for trying to help me as much as you can. Hopefully I will be able to find out what this is and if so get help for it.

Simone

Hi, I was wondering if you would be able to help me figure out this pain that I am having in my chest. I am 13 years old and this pain has been happening for a couple of months. It is like my heart is jumping out of my chest when it is beating at a certain time. It doesn't always happen. When my heart beats ocassionally this will happen, when I can feel the heart beat even more and it will heart around my heart for 10 secs or more then go away. Could you please help me figure out what this is? If you need anymore information I will gladly give you it.
Thankyou

Hi Simone and thanks for writing,

Can you please tell me a little more about your heart racing ... does it happen at any specific time of day, is it after exercise or when you're startled or excited - is there anything else you can tell me about it? Do you feel short of breath, do your lips go blue, does the pain travel up your arm, etc?

I'll look forward to your details and try to help you.

Take care,

Margot

Thanks Simone,

My best guess is that you are experiencing what's known as an Arrhythmia perhaps Atrial Fibrillation. These can happen with healthy hearts ad be no concern, or they can be a sign of a heart condition.

The best thing to do is to go see your physician and tell him you think you may be having Arrhythmias and let him listen to your heart and do an ECG.

Wishing you all the best,

Margot

Unfortunately no one can tell, only a qualified physician can be sure after s/he has listened to your heart and run a ECG to observe it's beating pattern.

Better safe than sorry, it's your health after all, try to make it to a doctor if at all possible.

Good luck,

Margot

Any doctor can do  simple CBC Blood Test and ECG, they'd give you a requisition and then you'd go to a Lab and have them both done in under 30 minutes.

I really don't know what it costs, but not too much I imagine as these are two very simple ad common tests. Do you have to pay to see your family doctor?

Answer
It's most likely nothing to worry about, but as there is a small chance it could be a more serious issue, you really need to go see your doctor. Another reason to go is that they should run tests now while you're younger so they have a record of your normal rhythms, then when you're older, if you have the problem again, they can look back and compare and see if anything has changed that they need to worry about, or if it's just the way you've always been.

Good luck,

Margot
