Question
I was diagnosed with TMD/Myofascial Pain Syndrome (by a physical therapist).  I suffered from facial pain for four years, but was recently diagnosed with this condiiton.  I do not know what specialist to seek for treatment.  Who, in your opinoion is best suited to treat this condition.  Thank you

Answer
Hi, Lisa,

In my opinion, the best approach for this condition is Hanna Somatic Education -- my discipline.

TMD comes from tight muscles of biting.  Hanna Somatic Education trains control of those muscles, so they relax.  Without improvement of control, any manipulative efforts to free the muscles, and that includes splints/appliances, massage, myofascial release, stretching, and dental work, inevitably fail.  The brain-level action pattern of holding those muscles tight continues because you can't change it by those other means; you can only change it through brain-muscle training.

Hanna Somatic Education produces results rapidly -- a few sessions, at most.

So that's my opinion.

Please see somatics.com/conditions.htm, for more information.
