Question
My husband is a volunteer fireman in Iowa. He has been a volunteer for 8 years. He had a accident on January 2009 and is now disabled.  our fire department has taken him off the roster for insurance purposes I know he has some rights but need the answer. I know they are protecting him because of injury but I can not tell him.  This is such a big part of his life.  He is weak on the right side and sees double. his mind is coming back and he now remembers everyone.

Answer
What is the nature of his disability? A right sided weakness and double vision could by a few diagnoses. You need to contact the volunteer unit and/or lawyer to discuss his right. He needs to know this can help him to work harder if he is receiving therapy. Is he also off from work? I would assume he is. Being up front with him is the best way to go. Also doing your homework on what he is entitled to is imperative.

Hope this helps.
