Question
I would like to know if an adjustment to the spine can cause irreversible damage to your nerves. In fact cause damage to your legs and feet. I have never seen pain in someones face as i did after a friend of 20 years had on their face directly after adjustment. Since then he has had to have numerous tests that showed he had nerve damage in his legs and it continues to worsen. Thank you.

Answer
A chiropractic adjustment should not cause great pain.  If it does, it has not been done properly or appropriately.  Just as MDs, dentists and other health professionals vary in their competence so do chiropractors.

It is very rare for chiropractic treatment to cause serious injury or "nerve damage."  Research has shown that chiropractic treatment is very safe, MUCH safer than even the most commonly used medications.  However, a poorly delivered and inappropriate chiropractic treatment could cause injury in very rare circumstances.
