Answer
Annabelle,

Thanks for the question.  You have one of a couple of problems going on here. I see this a lot.  Usually, this is a condition in which a chiropractor is best to treat.  It can be a sacroiliac joint fixation in which the pelvis has twisted or tilted and caused pressure on the SI joint.  This can radiate into buttock and hip and leg pain.  The treatment: manipulation of the sacroiliac joint and any therapy that may be appropriate.  This would release the fixation and irritation and life goes back to normal.

The other problem it could be is a hip problem. A chiropractor can help you with a hip problem as well.  I think you are a bit young for joint degeneration.  Usually an orthopedist is called in when they are concerned about a hip degeneration and need for hip replacement.  I doubt you are in that situation right now.  The orthopedist would likely give you some pain and anti-inflammatory medicine and maybe prescribe some PT.

I recommend consulting with a chiropractor to see if they can help.  I also recommend keeping your orthopedic appointment.  It can't hurt to see the ortho as well.

I hope this helps.

God Bless,

Dr. Boss
