Question
This past summer I started experiencing some pain on my right side.  I have put off going to the hospital because I am deathly afraid of needles and IV's.  The pain is very sharp when I lay down and when I take deep breaths.  It comes and goes. Sometimes it goes as quickly as it came.  Other times however it is there for several weeks or months.  The pain is in my right side and very high.  It is just below my right breast and goes all the way through from front to back.  It feels like on or more of my ribs is piercing my right lung.  Without having gone to the hospital for tests and X-rays, do you have any idea as to what the problem could be?

Answer
Hello Melissa,

Sorry to hear of your pain.

You have a pain.  You have a pain for several months.  The pain comes and goes, the pain is severe.

Why don't you visit a local doctor for an evaluation?  You do not have to go to the hospital, you may not need scary tests; just an examination by a local doctor could give you a diagnosis with appropriate treatment, and your pain could be cured!

Your right side? Pain that comes and goes? Piercing pain back to front?

Does this relate at all to your diet? to when and what you eat?, are you overweight?  Do you eat fast foods, processed foods, fatty foods?

It could be a gall bladder.

You have not given me much to go on, but that would be my first guess.

I recommend you visit an internist, let him(her) examine you, take a more detailed case history, perhaps Xrays right in the office.  I would not be surprised if it is a Gall Bladder, and perhaps diet modification will take care of your problems!

Do not jump to conclusions!, but you do have to be evaluated.

I hope this helps.  If you want to send me more info, ask more questions, do not hesitate to re-contact me here at AllExperts.com
