Question
a chiro that ive went to has recommended icing with  a cup of ice and a towel around that with the cup removed.

he told me to do for 5 minutes on my hip 2 times a day.

i have many chronic injuries of the lumbar and hip area.

i thought that hot moist heat was the best for chronic?

or are there certain circumstances where this wet ice for chronic areas would be good? explain?

and is it ok for me to all other chronic areas with this wet ice? like even over the spine and joints as well?

i take it thru the 4 stages to numbness. i dont have any problems like diabetes and am in good shape so i dont think there a problem on that front with the ice.

please advice?

thanking you in advance.

Answer
The ice massage is indicated for many chronic conditions.  One way to explain how it works is:  When you have a chronic injury, your body quits "recognizing" the injury.  You know it's there, but the body doesn't recognize the problem.  The ice massage is very noxious to the body, and starts a whole new healing process.  Heat usually is best for chronic, but the ice massage can be "thrown in" to start this healing cascade.  Before you try it on other areas, check with your D.C. first to see if it would be appropriate.
