numbness of left leg during sleep

Question
I'm 37, and I'm trying to stop cracking my neck after years of doing so.  For months (at least since Jan. 2008), I've had pain between my left shoulder blade and spine when I lean my head to the right.  Currently, I have a long muscle knot in that area, and I sometimes think my left hand might be tingly,.  Last night I awoke (on my left side, I think) to find my left leg numb.  I was able to get out of bed with ease, as I could move my leg.  I stood up and stamped my foot until the feeling returned to my foot.  One thing that bothered me was that my foot didn't tingle as I'd expect it to as blood rushed back into it.  I also have leaky valves in my left leg brought on by my pregnancies.  I know I need to call my doctor, but I wanted to start here.

Thank you in advance for any advice.
Paula

Answer
Firstly, I would see your family physician to rule out any medical problems.  If none, then I would find a good chiropractor.  "Cracking" your neck is very different from having an adjustment, and you may have some underlying mechanical problems that need to be addressed.  Your leg numbness may be from a pinch of the sciatic nerve, which a good chiropractor would also address.
