Question
Can chiropractic work done on the neck cause a pinched nerve? I have had 5 sessions with a Chirop. and started expereincing tingling and weaknesss in left arm after 3 or 4th. He thought it might be my wrists so he adjusted them. Still arm troubles though. I swear my right foot is also tingling. I am kinda nervous so I am not sure what is stress and what's not. The arm is a definite though. Why do I feel worse than when I started the whole process. It's discouraging. Thank you! Susan

Answer
Hi Susan,

Sorry that you are having this type of reaction.

The short answer to your question is, yes.  Anything that is therapeutic can cause a problem if not used carefully or some unusual circumstance is present.

Most of the time it is an adaptation phase.  Much like when you start an aerobic class for the first time in a long while.  The first few classes one might say, "Are you sure this stuff (aerobics) is good for you?"

Now you know that it is good for you.  But that initial discomfort begs the question.

If your foot gets into the act I would suspect some systemic problem.  Like a mineral deficiency or, as you suggested, a stress induced reaction.

My recommendation at a distance is to slow down the adjustment procedure.  The body can only tolerate so much change at a given moment.  Your body may need a bit less change each visit at this time.

Hope this helps.
