Question
Hello,

I just turned 24 years old and I a experiencing bone popping whenever I move in both of my shoulders, knees, feet, and in my neck when I look down. This has been happening for over a month now, and I'm really scared. I don't have pain in my joints except in my left knee, which has been giving me issues for years, but I never went to the doctor about it.

I recently moved from DC to LA, so I was thinking that the dry climate could have something to do with it. Both of my parents have arthritis in their knees, but they both were diagnosed when they were much older. I'm 5'10 and 190 pounds, and exercise once in a while, and my diet is not bad but it's not great either.

Do you know what could be the issue?

Regards,
Cindy

Answer
Dear Cindy,

I find it odd that you are getting popping sensations in so many different joints all at the same time.

The first thing that I would do is to visit a rheumatologist (arthritis specialist, MD) and have a good examination.  There are MANY MANY kinds of connective tissue and arthritic conditions, and such a doctor would help you to know, right off the bat, if you have something that you should be concerned about.  Putting your mind at ease by getting yourself checked out is the first step.  The good news is that usually popping and clicking in the joints is no problem at all. Me trying, through the internet, to speculate as to the cause of your symptoms would be pointless.  The value of a face to face encounter, with medical history, physical examination, and laboratory testing is paramount.

Ask around and find an arthritis specialist that you can visit. It will be worth your time and effort.

Good luck Cindy. I wish you the best of health always.
