Question
QUESTION: Does this condition trigger distal tingling/numbness/redness/sensations of fingers/toes and may cause headache in occipital region.I'm 21 and I've had MRI of head and C-spine done without contrast. No lesions or changes.Only straightening of cervical spine no nerve or spinal cord pinched/pressed but the cover wall(don't know the name) of s-cord is under pressure due to vertebras rotation(esp C4-C5/C6-C7.
I'd be grateful for your opinion.ANY ADVICE OR SUGGESTIONS

ANSWER: Cervical spine straightening, tingling, numbness, redness, sensations, occipital headache, C-spine, negative HNP, negative disc herniation, Vertebral Rotation, Vertebral Subluxation Complex, negative medical pathology, negative Medical lesions, ; positive Chiropractic lesion = curve alteration, spinal vertebral rotation, VSC, vertebral subluxation

Hello Catherine,

Sorry to hear of your complaints/ pain/ condition.

Advice or Suggestion:
What has your Doctor of Chiropractic suggested?  I will probably concur.  Commonly called the 'spine specialist' (by virtue of working on spinal complaints and related conditions all day every day), what does your Chiropractor say.

I will make recommendation and explanation and a possible diagnosis (which can only be given in person, hands on, by appropriate health professionals- like your Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) or medical doctor).

You have had Xray and MRI.  I am sure your Doctor of Chiropractic explained that the medical doctor radiologist and the DC look for some of the same things, but the chiropractor is also interested in curve changes, postural indicators of tension, vertebral alignment.
You state you have loss of the normal curve, vertebral rotation.

Loss of the normal curves in the spine is usually an indication of a problem such as an injury, bad postural habit, repetitive stress injury.  Whiplash for example, is often evidenced by the loss of the cervical curve or even a reversal of the cervical curve.  Sometimes it does not have to be something as dramatic and traumatic as a motor vehicle accident (whiplash, cervical acceleration/ deceleration injury); it can be years of a poor habit--- sleeping on your stomach can straighten or reverse the cervical curve.

The alteration in the curve causes joint irritation, joint inflammation, ultimately joint deterioration.  Mother nature meant for us to have a cervical curve.  Without the cervical curve we put stress into our neuro-musculo-skeletal system.  The result can be the symptoms your describe:  headache, numbness, tingling, etc.

Remember- your cervical spine is the main switchboard for nerves in your body.  Almost all of your nerves to/from the brain traverse the C-spine.  Curve alteration will irritate the C-spine joints and could cause tension in the dural sleeve, dentate ligaments, and produce the chemicals of inflammation, all of these in turn irritate and inflame the nerves that control our body.

I would follow the treatment regimen recommended by your doctor of chiropractic.  Return to the normal C-spine curve would be a goal, but may not be completely achievable.  The chiropractic adjustment will allow the joints of the spine to move more freely, align more properly and reduce irritation of the nervous system.

I utilize some informative handouts in my Staten Island Chiropractic office, these may be of help to you in explaining/ understanding your condition/ complaints:

揥hiplash?   ( Also Known As-  Cervical  Sprain/ Strain,  CAD= Cervical Acceleration/ Deceleration Injury)
Sometimes  a slip, trip, fall, heavy lift, or a motor vehicle accident can cause a 慦hiplash Injury?  This can result in ligament sprain, muscle strain, and 憄inched nerves?
Often  -  the    c a u s e   of  the neck stiffness and pain; a cause of stretched ligaments and muscle strain is a misalignment,  a 慿ink?in the neck- more properly termed a Vertebral Subluxation.  Sometimes 慦hiplash?symptoms can come immediately, sometimes days, weeks or even months after the actual trauma !
Vertebral   Subluxation   Complex    (a.k.a.  憇ubluxation?
The vertebral subluxation complex is the underlying cause of many healthcare problems.
A  subluxation  interferes with the proper functioning of the nervous system  (the master system  which controls and coordinates all function within the body)  and may cause various other conditions, symptoms and problems.

This is a serious condition identified by its five parts:
    Spinal Kinesiopathology:
This is fancy way of saying the bones of the spine have lost their normal motion and position. It restricts your ability to turn and bend. It sets in motion the other four components.
    Neuropathophysiology:
Improper spinal function can choke, stretch, or irritate delicate nerve tissue. The resulting nerve system dysfunction can cause symptoms elsewhere in the body.
    Myopathology:
Muscles supporting the spine can weaken, atrophy, or become tight and go into spasm. The resulting scar tissue changes muscle tone, requiring repeated spinal adjustments.
    Histopathology:
A rise in temperature from an increase in blood and lymph supplies result in swelling and inflammation. Discs can bulge, herniate, tear, or degenerate. Other soft tissues may suffer permanent damage.
    Pathophysiology:
Bone spurs and other abnormal bony growths attempt to fuse malfunctioning spinal joints. This spinal decay, scar tissue, and long-term nerve dysfunction can cause other systems of the body to malfunction.

The Vertebral Subluxation Complex describes what happens when spinal bones lose their normal movement patterns and position.
Automobile accidents, improper lifting, improper posture, alcohol, emotional stress, chemical imbalances, and long periods of sitting can cause the Vertebral Subluxation Complex.
Vertebral  Subluxation  cannot be corrected through chemicals (medicine), stretching, yoga, vitamins or physical therapy alone.  Subluxation- a neuro/skeletal/muscular- mechanical- problem requires a mechanical correction-  -  -    a manipulation,     best performed with the chiropractic adjustment.  For good health- Treat the   Cause,  not just the Symptoms.

Disk   Herniation
Herniated  disk  is  actually  a  quite  common  condition.   However,  the course of the condition is highly variable.   Some patients with a herniated disk literally cannot walk, yet other patients with similar MRI findings may be able to run marathons or lift heavy weights.   Some people suffer for only a few days with pain and symptoms, some people suffer for months. Although the course is highly variable, there are certain steps that are always helpful to follow:  Ice the area when painful-  10/ 15minutes on, 30/ 45 minutes off;  avoid certain postures and movements;  bend the knees when coughing or sneezing;  bend the knees when lifting anything;  do not extend legs straight out when sitting, laying down, lifting, or driving.   Avoiding certain movements and postures will prevent aggravation of the condition.   Practicing good postures and movement patterns will help the condition heal and be less painful.
Disk  Herniation  is often caused by, or often  concurrent with the Vertebral Subluxation Complex.
         Vertebral   Subluxation   Complex    (a.k.a.  憇ubluxation?
The vertebral subluxation complex is the underlying cause of many healthcare problems.

The Vertebral Subluxation Complex describes what happens when spinal bones lose their normal movement patterns and position.  When subluxated, joints are in a stressed, vulnerable, compromised condition.  Subluxation may cause Arthritis, Disk Herniation, or aggravate such conditions.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Thank you Dr.Dolan for immediate thorough and reliable reply.Sorry for poor not medical language it is THECAL SAC compression what was found by MRI,vertebras arent exactly rotated but they lenghten and that causes this compression.

In my country chiropractors are almost out of reach so I appreciate your opinion on mz MRI and symptoms.I am aware that diagnosis through the net is impossible.

Rehabilitation was advised by my neurologist and orthopedist.I am now aware I need to see chiropractor immediately.I was doubtful about diagnosis)mz neck is not in pain but I will follow up suggestions.

The part of opinion about nerves inflammation was crucial for me.Stress must be eliminated I guess I just cannot believe all my pain comes from that cervical spine!Sadly my condition is chronic, constant pains, headaches sometimes backaches and now even legs-feet are in pain.Tingling, numbness in fingers is rather symmetrical not one leg or hand but both I hope it will get better
after rehab or else I will go to neurologist again)he says it is cervical spinel
Thank you very much once again
Best wishes
C.

Answer
Hello Catherine,

You say Doctors of Chiropractic are not readily available in your country.  You do not say what country you live in.  If you are in Europe, many medical doctors also manipulate the spine.  In Germany there is a profession  , , , ,  'Heilopraktor' , , ,  (?) something like that ; that is similar to Chiropractic , with the practitioner manipulating the spine.

Doctors of Chiropractic are now all over the world, in most countries.
Doctors of Chiropractic are now usually licensed by most countries/ states/ provinces.  IF a "Chiropractor" is not available, I would not be surprised if some SIMILAR discipline is in your country, or even if the Medical Doctors or Physical Therapists practice some type of "manual medicine" with manipulation of the spine being a possible treatment approach.

See if there are any practitioners of 'manual medicine'.  I know in Europe, Russia, China, Japan, and Africa, that there are manual medicine practitioners.

Thanks for the return question.

Good Luck.
