lower back/hip leg pain & bowel prob.

Question
I was hit in the back 9 weeks ago by some shopping carts.  My diagnosis has gone from muscle strain to sciatica & possible slipped disc to sacriliatic joint inflamation back to possible slipped disc.

I have had a bulging pain in my lower back for 3-4 weeks, my entire leg & foot have gone completely numb (unable to move)my hand on that side has had weakness & tingling fingers durring this episode.  I have had excruciating pains running down my leg into my foot & back up the other side.  I have had times where my groin area becomes numb & I lose control of my bowels/bladder.

The recovery time was supposed to be at the most 6 weeks.  My physiotherapist is now at a total loss & doubts my simptoms.  I have gone for an xray with no results & will get the results of the the ct scan in the morning.

I had an episode tonight where I was just sitting & completely lost control of my bowels.  It is extremely frustrating & embarrasing.  This time I was unable to urinate for 3 hrs after. Even though I had the urge to urinate.

What could this be from?  I have never had so many problems before.  Maybe I am just complaining too much.

Thanks for writing!

You are complaining too  little. Very much too little.

In many cases, when one loses control of their bowels, there is a pressure on the spinal cord.

Obviously, the physical therapy has been of no benefit, as would be expected under these circumstances.

Apparently, your doctor is just going thru the regimen that your insurance company requires. I predict they will mention surgery to you next.

You did not mention your age and that is a major factor.

Whatever the CT scan shows, I suggest you get to a good chiropractor in your area and get another opinion. There is a slim chance that would help.

Let me know if you want a referral to a good chiropractor near you.
