Question
I had an open MRI done and really do not understand how to read this report that I got.
Description:  The sagittal images allow visualiaztion from T12 through S2.  The vertebral bodies appear homgeneous with area of abnormal signal.  There is a degenerative disk noted at L3-4, L4-5, and L5-S1.  the lateral sagittal views demonstrate narrowing of the left L4-5 nerve root cannal.  The conus medullaris appears normal. Axial images allow visualization at L3-4, L4-5, and L5-S1.  At L3-4, there is no evidence of disk herniation, nerve root canal stenosis, or central spinal stenosis.  At L4-5 posteror surgical changes are noted.  There is an area if intermediateT1 and T2 signal in the lateral recess.  At least a portion of this area enhances suggesting epidural fibrosis.  Cannot exclude a component of residual or recurrent disk herniation.  There is encorachment on the left neuroforamen, but no significant central spinal stenosis.  At L5-S1, there is no evidence of disk herniation, nerve root canal stenosis, central spinal stenosis, or abnormal enhancement.

Can you help me out

Answer
I'm curious why your doctor hasn't explained them to you, and if he has why you didn't ask him to clarify.  Either way, the readers digest version is you have some narrowing where the nerve comes out of the vertebrae at L4-5, this can cause leg pain/numbness depending on how bad it is.  Everything else seems to be normal.  I strongly suggest sitting down with your doctor to talk about these xrays with you.  If he is unable to, look into talking to another doctor in person, an orthopedic doctor, neurologist, chiropractor, someone that will take the time to sit with you and show you exactly what is going on.  If you have any other concerns or questions, please email me.
