Question
Hi,
I have been suffering for roughly 6 years with neck,arm/hand and shoulder blade pain,as well as migraines. It has been awful.3 weeks ago I had this double fusion surgery done and I am still having a lot of pain. The same pain as before but its more intense. Is this normal? Will it get better? Is there a chance the pain will not go away? Also a lot of hip pain from the surgery(they took bone from my hip)will I always have pain in my hip from that or will that go away?God I am so fed up with all this.It has ruined my life.I have 3 kids and all they know of their mother is lying in the bed.I am taking a lot of pain meds but I would like to think that someday I could be pain free.I know there is other disc's that are bulged, they fixed 6 and 7 and the others are bad as well just not as bad as those 2 were.Any advice you could give me would help.Bad or good.I just would like to know.Thankyou and I really hope to hear from you soon...Renee

Answer
Renee,

Disc bulges indicate excessive tension in back muscles.  Your neck, arm and shoulder blade pain indicates excessive tension in neck muscles.

The hip pain probably results from muscular contractions around the site of the surgery.

Surgery can't fix the cause of disc bulges:  muscular contractions.  They have to be corrected by improving muscular control through a deliberate learning process.

If you were my client, I would expect complete relief in about five sessions.

Please see the articles I have written on pain management, back pain, and recovery from injuries at somatics.com/page4.htm.

Sessions with a clinical somatic educator or self-help programs (slower) are options.

Let me know how it goes.

with regard,
Lawrence Gold
